Chapters 1-19:
Rick Riordan takes killing off a character to a whole other level. Before Riordan even let us fall in love with Magnus he kills the poor boy. On his 16th birthday too. That is harsh Uncle Rick.
Magnus ends of in this Norse purgatory for fallen heroes who are claimed by Odin called Valhalla. From what we have read of this place is that they have wolves everywhere (furniture, doors, real life breathing wolves, etc.), everyone gets a room that accommodates them (like Magnus gets a bookshelf filled with his favorite books), they have this magical goat that makes a fantastic, intense guest, and Magnus does not belong there. His valkyrie even gets banished for her mistake. I originally thought that Magnus was going to be the son of Odin because his past main protagonists' fathers were one of the top three gods. Instead Magnus Chase is the son of Frey, a God who is kind of a joke to the other gods. Poor Magnus.
