I'll Give You The Sun Discussion 1

Chapters 1 & 2-

In the first chapter we are introduced to Noah, a thirteen year old artist who is being bullied by two older boys. Noah is scared and lost. He hides behind by this mask as if he is ashamed of who he is. We meet the two completely different professors for parents and Jude; Noah's slightly older twin sister. We discover the issues the family faces within the first chapter and it brings a sense of honestly to the story. I empathize with Noah on a personal level because I know what it feels like to be judged for who I am. Noah already seems like a great character and I hope the best for him.

In the second chapter we are three years into the future and Jude is telling the story now. Her mother is dead, she got accepted into the art school, Noah did not, he hasn't drawn since the letter arrived, Jude may or may not have been raped, and some other things that w have discovered so far. We have only skimmed the rim of this book and it's a ready touching my heart and making me feel the characters' pain. So many questions or run into my head and I cannot wait to see where Nelson's captivating writing takes us next.
